Loryan Renewable Engineering have picked up an award for 'spearheading renewable energy and working with communities' at the 2013 Stafford Borough Council Green Awards. The award was presented by Cllr Angela Loughran, the mayor of Stafford Borough at a ceremony held at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre on October 17.

The Green Awards recognise organisations demonstrating an active commitment to good environmental practice and sustainable development. Loryan were commended for their work with Oak Tree Rural Project, Stafford and Rural Homes, and educating the agricultural community on the benefits of renewable energy through two energy seminars hosted in May.

For Oak Tree Rural Project, who provide support for adults with learning disabilities in a rural environment, Loryan installed a solar PV system at cost that will save the charity around £1,300 every year. 230 high-specification solar panels were fitted to the roof of Stafford and Rural Homes that will generate over 47,000 kwh of electricity a year.

Leigh Naylor, managing director for Loryan, said: "We are really proud of our achievements in 2013. Helping organisations reduce long-term energy costs and improve their ecological commitment to the environment is at the heart of everything we do."

"Loryan will continue to support good causes and promote the economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy. I am delighted to announce in 2014 Loryan will be working in partnership with bITjAM to develop an educational programme for schools and colleges in North Staffordshire."

Carl Plant from bITjAM, said: "We are delighted to be working with Loryan and a number of schools in the region to develop fun and interactive educational programmes. We feel that bringing together industry experts and local communities with modern interactive technologies is a recipe for success in the development of new learning programmes."
